Interview with Two Norlha Spinners May 20th 2021

My name is Dolma Tso, I am from the sixth village in Ritoma, Black Water Clan. This year I turned 52. I started working for Norlha in 2009.
When did you first start spinning?
I was about 20 when I first started spinning sheep wool. No one in particular taught me how to spin. I remember seeing the elder women around me spinning and I picked it up from them. At Norlha, the quality of the yak khullu is so fine that it took some practice to reach the required level.
What does the Yak mean to you?
To me the Yak has delicious milk and butter, symbolising the beginning of all life.
What is your favourite Norlha product?
My favourite Norlha product is the 100% yak khullu handspun range. This product always makes me feel proud, as it is the one my spinning contributes towards.
How has Norlha impacted your life?
It has provided me a stable source of income which has improved my quality of life.

My name is Pagpa Tso, I am from the fifth village and this year, I turn 57. I began working at Norlha in 2008.
When did you first start spinning? How is spinning different at Norlha?
I was around 23 years old when I first started spinning. At Norlha, spinning requires attention to detail and an eye for quality.
What does the Yak mean to you?
The nomads would not survive without yaks. They have been crucial to our way of living.
What is your favourite Norlha product?
My favourite Norlha products are the 100% Yak khullu pieces. I find these to be the warmest and the softest.
How has Norlha impacted your life?
My source of income has improved and life has become easier.
