The Norbu Scarf

Sheep dominate the landscape in Northeastern Tibet, and more particularly in Ritoma where they form white dots on the hills that surround the village. Sheep by-products have heavily influenced the local look mainly in the form of sheepskin chubas. The best are home made, with the wooly side worn on the inside, with a generous collar turned out. In 2016, the first poodle came to Ritoma and Norbu’s wooly mane inspired the Norlha design team to create the ‘Norbu scarf’. The scarf, contrarily to the sheep situation, is entirely peaceful in nature, made from yak khullu hand spun into pods that are delicately hand placed on a loom and woven into a very voluminous scarf similar in look and texture to the texture of the outside of a sheep skin… except that is dark brown, like Norbu, and the yak.
