Norlha Carpets
Norlha’s Carpet Project began in June 2016. The training workshop is situated in Labrang, with twelve trainees from Choni and Labrang, and two trainers from Nepal. The aim of the project, which began with local government funding, was to train people from other areas and eventually set up a joint venture in Choni, providing opportunity and employment there. Norlha carpets are different from any made so far. Using only indigenous sheep wool from Central Tibet, famous for its length and luster, our carpets concentrate on texture, mixing traditional Tibetan carpet making processes with those currently used elsewhere. Colors are mostly natural, and designs simple and unobtrusive. Though only in its third month of existence, the carpet project is full of promise, with enthusiastic trainees and many new ideas. |
